Spring is a beautiful time of year in Winter Park … and it’s also a great opportunity to take advantage of the best art, performance, and music the area has to offer.
That goes double for those who live at The Mayflower: Our campus is located just minutes from Winter Park’s best-loved destinations. It’s no surprise that we – and our residents – have a long legacy of supporting the arts as patrons and advocates, building lasting, mutually beneficial relationships with local cultural organizations.
“Winter Park may be a city of 30,000 people, but we’ve got three world-class museums, excellent theaters, and outstanding music, opera, and ballet – much of it only a few miles away,” says Mayflower resident Michael Kakos.
Here’s a taste of what’s available nearby … all less than ten minutes from The Mayflower:
- Art Museums. From the Morse Museum’s world-class Tiffany collection to the Polasek Museum and Sculpture Garden’s oak-shaded lawns and wide range of exhibits, Mayflower residents don’t have to go far in search of fine art. Another great option is the Rollins Museum of Art (formerly the Cornell Fine Arts Museum), which offers free admission to all guests.
- Architecture. Home to some of the city’s oldest and most iconic Mediterranean Revival architecture – including the historic Knowles Chapel (1931) – Rollins College’s lush campus is especially lovely in spring, when azaleas are blooming. The school is also within walking distance of other top destinations, such as Casa Feliz (a restored Andalusian-style farmhouse listed on the U.S. National Register for Historic Places) and the Downtown Winter Park Historical District.
- Festivals and Events. Elegant Park Avenue is home to a wide range of festivals year-round, but the spring Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival tops them all. One of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious outdoor art fairs (ranked #1 in the South), it draws hundreds of thousands of guests every year – including Mayflower residents like Steph Nagelson. “They have amazing work,” she says. “Artists from all over the country come here.”
- Music and Performance. From the Annie Russell Theatre to the Winter Park Playhouse, the city’s rich theatrical tradition continues to uplift and inspire. Connoisseurs of music have plenty to enjoy, too: Since 1935, the Bach Festival Society of Winter Park has brought oratorio choral performances to the Orlando area and the world stage, performing at such august venues as London’s Royal Albert Hall and St. Peter’s Basilica.
Combining big-city culture and small-town charm, Winter Park offers “the best of both worlds” … and there’s no better place to experience it all than The Mayflower. With exceptional amenities, vibrant residents, assured healthcare, and a selection of stylish (and surprisingly affordable) apartments, you can enjoy all the advantages of a Life Plan Community, close to all the opportunities Central Florida is known for.
